If you are not allergic to nuts, they are a simple food send by Gods - easy to store, crunchy, tasty which can be eaten as whole or used for garnish (on desserts/rice/curries) or in curry paste to lend a creamy taste and aroma.

So, What makes them the power bowl?

Each nut is different to platte and are low in sodium; some of the common nuts are -

  • Almonds: protein, calcium and vitamin E
  • Cashews:  iron and a low GI rating
  • Pistachios: protein, potassium, antioxidant resveratrol
  • Walnuts:  omega 3 and antioxidants

If You Have To Read One Article About Onion Bhajis, Read this One

Onion Bhajis by Us and Pic by @sarawears

Let's admit it - Onion Bhajis (Fritters) are a delight and can be savoured any time of the day (or night!). It's perfect for a rainy day, cloudy day, hot day, cold day and even a lazy day!

The easiest way to get these is to get someone else do the cooking else don't despair, you can make these quickly and serve them hot & crispy.

Here's the recipe to get cooking

Ingredients
  • 3 Big white onions
  • Oil for deep frying
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon garlic paste
  • 1 tablespoon coriander powder
  • Green chillies paste (3 chillies or as per required spice level)
  • 1 pinch asafoetida
  • 250ml (1 cup) gram flour
  • Garnish - Half a tablespoon chat masala (optional) & finely chopped coriander leaves
Instructions
  1. Slice the onions in fine rings
  2. Mix salt, garlic paste, chilli paste, coriander powder and the asafoetida.
  3. Mix this mixture with gram flour and add little bit of water to create a paste. Ensure to add little water while mixing to ensure the paste is not too thin and is thick enough to hold its shape
  4. Add onions and cover them with this paste properly
  5. Heat the oil over medium heat. The oil is ready when a piece of paste sizzles and browns in about 25 seconds.
  6. Fry the onion bhajis in batches till these are a bit brown and cooked well
  7. Transfer the  onion bhajis onto paper towels to drain any excess oil.
  8. Sprinkle chat masala and garnish with finely chopped coriander leaves
  9. Serve with green coriander / mint chutney or tomato sauce.
